Philadelphia, PA...The women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches in Philadelphia to Mercy College and Philly U. In the first match the Lady Deacons were defeated by Mercy College 2-3 (19-30, 30-28, 30-19, 26-30, 13-15). In match two the Lady Deacons fell to Philly U. 1-3 (21-30, 20-30, 30-23, 27-30).
In the first match against Mercy Ursula Pereira (Belo Horizante, Brazil/Newark East Side) led the BC offense with 21 kills, hitting .333 committing just six errors on 45 total attempts. Pereira also had a team high 20 digs and two aces. Celeste Lindsey (Cincinnati, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) tallied 15 kills and hit .303 committing just five errors on 33 attempts, to go along with four total blocks. Sonia Perez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Hackensack) paced the offense with 42 assists and picked up 16 digs on defense.
In match two against Philly U. Pereira and Lindsey led the offensive attack again. Pereira posted a match high 18 kills as well as two aces and 19 digs. Lindsey chipped in with 11 kills and three blocks while Perez distributed 35 assists. Tiffany Jackson (Central Islip, NY/Islip) and Nilmara Zanette (Brazil/Newark East Side) each picked up 22 digs. Zanette's 13th dig of the match was a milestone as she surpassed 1,000 digs in her career.
The Lady Deacons' record now sits at 0-7. They will return to action on Tuesday September 11, when they play their first home game of the 2007 season in a non-conference match against NYIT at 7:30 PM.
